South Beach Beverage Company, commonly known by its acronym, SoBe (IPA: [sobi]), is a manufacturer of teas, fruit-juice blends and energy drinks. SoBe was founded in Norwalk, Connecticut in 1996 and became a subsidiary of PepsiCo in October 2000. The SoBe name is also licensed for gum and chocolate products.

Company history

The South Beach Beverage Company is a drink manufacturer based in Norwalk, Connecticut, USA. Incorporated in 1996, their first product was SoBe Black Tea 3G (ginseng, guarana, and ginkgo). It proved popular and led to the introduction of other flavors.
   A 90 percent interest in the South Beach Beverage Company was purchased for USD $370 million by PepsiCo. on October 30, 2000.

    SoBe is known for its bottlecaps, which have different phrases printed on their reverse side, parodying pop culture and other references. Some phrases include: Sobe Wan Kenobi, "Apocalizard Now" and "Wasssssobe?". There are currently over 200 different cap slogans in production.

  • SoBe is the exclusive beverage partner of the Surfrider Foundation.
  • SoBe sponsored Troops 501-506 from NW Connecticut during the 2005 National Scout Jamboree. Its lizard logo appeared on their patches. SoBe sponsors the terrain parks and superpipes of many ski resorts, including the Okemo Mountain Resort.

  • xXx — Xander Cage (played by Vin Diesel) can be seen drinking SoBe during the party after he did his bridge stunt.
  • Employee of the Month - Vince Downey (played by Dax Shepard) can be seen with a SoBe Nirvana multiple times throughout the film.
  • Juno - Mark Loring (played by Jason Bateman) offers Juno MacGuff (played by Ellen Page) a Ginseng SoBe while they wait for Vanessa Loring (played by Jennifer Garner) to return home.

    In video games

  • — there are SoBe vending machines that heal the character's health. These vending machines are replaced on later levels with "Health Up" machines which have the same effect.
  • DRIV3R — SoBe is mentioned many times including advertisements on the sides of buses, SoBe delivery trucks, and SoBe vending machines.
  • Tony Hawk's Underground 2 — is seen on t-shirts, hats, and other objects.

    In Super Bowl Ads

  • "Thrillicious" — SoBe Life Water paid over $4 Million for a 1 minute commercial slot during the second quarter of Super Bowl XLII. The commercial features Naomi Campbell and the SoBe Geckos dancing to the song Thriller by Michael Jackson.

    On Guitars

  • Epiphone - released a limited edition series of guitars with the Sobe name on them.
